Kihîw Snowshoe Trail

Experience Kihîw in Every Season –  See the Summer Trail Here

Welcome to the Kihîw Snowshoe Trail

Our property is situated on the unceded territory of the Sinixt Confederacy, Secwépemc Nation, Ktunaxa Nation, and Syilx Okanagan Nations. We respectfully acknowledge these first peoples of Revelstoke, whose rich cultural heritage and deep connection to this land inspire our trail.

Winter at Alpha Mountain Lodging

When snow covers the ground, the Kihîw Nature Trail becomes a quiet snowshoe path. The plants you see in summer are hidden, but winter brings its own beauty. Snow-covered trees, icicles on boulders, and open mountain views make for a stunning scene. While the signs along the trail talk about summer plants, winter lets you see the land in a whole new way.

Wildlife in Winter

Winter is a great time to spot local wildlife. You might see tracks from deer, foxes, moose, or coyotes. Steller’s jays fly through the trees, pileated woodpeckers tap on trunks, and grouse rest in their winter homes. Snowshoeing lets you notice the small details and quiet sounds of the forest.

A Trail for All Seasons

“Kihîw” means “eagle” in Cree, a name that honors both the land and our family’s history. In summer, the trail highlights traditional plant knowledge, while winter tells a different story—one of survival, change, and winter’s quiet magic. Whether you’re new to snowshoeing or an experienced explorer, this trail invites you to slow down, breathe in the crisp air, and enjoy the season.

With Deep Respect & Gratitude

This trail’s signage was made possible by the support and guidance of the Indigenous Friendship Society of Revelstoke, the expertise of local ethnobotanist Christy Shaw, and consultations with various knowledge keepers and elders from Alberta and British Columbia.

We acknowledge the Indigenous knowledge and traditions that have shaped this land for generations. We hope that as you explore, you find beauty, peace, and a deeper appreciation for the land and its stories.
